In Purgatory, you enter the rings of hell and try to conquer them as an attempt to redeem yourself and escape the inevitable path to eternal suffering.

In your journey you will come across the worlds of Lust and Gluttony, which sport a beautiful yet unsettling and intimidating atmosphere. You'll need to solve the puzzles in order to discover more about yourself and follow your path to redemption. Your every move will be observed by the statues as they determine your fate.

My idea for this project started off an an "open world" concept where the player could roam around a small but non-linear area, discovering elements as they delved deeper. The idea eventually came to a dead end so I decided that I needed to have a goal and a specific genre to go off. I discovered the poem "Dante's Inferno" and I really liked the concepts behind each ring of hell, the writing was open to interpretation in some cases so I decided to take the concept of hell and give it my own twist.

Usually when people picture Hell, they imagine fire, blood and demons, but I wanted to take that concept and turn it into something still scary/intimidating, but instead create a somewhat beautiful setting within that concept.

Dive into the whimsical world of Nina Gnomercy - a Gnomish Bard who loves nothing more than adventure and discovering something new! High among the floating islands, she lives in harmony among the dragon nests. Intrigued by her colourful house, the dragons started to lay their nests on her little island and she has become one among their offspring.

After a hard day of exploration with her closest friends, she loves nothing more than to get everyone cosy within her small cabin, kick back and tell tales of her many adventures. Inside her house suspended from the roof is a small battle arena where she can practice her moves!

This project was based off my "Dungeons and Dragons" character, I'd been playing as her for over a year so I decided to dive into deeper depths and figure out what really made Nina her true self. Inspired by the games already played and the events that had occurred during our adventures, I decided that I wanted to create small hand-painted dioramas that captured her personality to the best of my ability.

She tends to be quite care-free and sporadic so I tried to capture that within the shoddily put together house.

The aim of this project was to push my Hand-Painted Texturing skills. I decided not to include normal maps within this project in hopes that I could achieve the look I wanted through painting the lighting myself. The project turned out pretty well but I think in the future I'd like to try using normal maps to really make the models pop!
